What is School Savers

School Savers is a savings scheme run in partnership between schools and Cambrian Credit Union, helping children develop positive saving habits in a familiar and supportive environment.

Children bring their savings into school on an agreed day, where deposits are collected and recorded before being transferred into their Cambrian Credit Union savings account.

Children learn the importance of looking after their money, setting savings goals, and saving regularly from an early age.

Funds are securely held with Cambrian Credit Union, and parents can view balances and transactions through our mobile app, making it easier than ever to stay connected to their child's savings journey.

School Savers FAQ'S

Have a question? Check below to see if it is answered in our Frequently Answered Questions.

Do Parents Need an Account First?

Yes, fortunately, this is a simple process done via our wesbite (here). This account will then be linked to your child’s Junior Account for monitoring.

Are there any membership fees?

There are membership fees for adult accounts, but not for junior accounts. Adults must keep a £5 minimum balance in their account at all times. There is also a £5 fee that is taken on the anniversary of joining each year.

How long does it take to set up?

An account can be created via our app in under 10 minutes, it may take up to 24 hours for our team to fully activate your account, as we will need to send you a payment link for your initial deposit and minimum balance of £5.

How do kids track their balances?

Each junior account is issued a savings tracker book, this is updated each time the child deposits money into their account.

The parent and child’s accounts can also be linked, meaning the parent has 24/7 access to balances of all junior accounts they control.

How do I withdraw?

Withdrawals can be done online via our app or online banking portal, or via our phone lines (0333 2000 601). Only the linked parent is able to view balances or withdraw from a junior account.

Is the money kept somewhere safe?

All funds are stored with Cambrian Credit Union, and FSCS protected up to £120,000, just as safe as any other UK bank.

When do children bring money into school?

The school picks a day in the week for money to be brought in; their chosen cashiers will take the deposits and record them in the child’s savings tracker book.

What is the interest rate on my savings?

Your Cambrian Credit Union savings actively supports the financial wellbeing of both yourself, and your local community. Although our savings accounts do not generate a flat rate of interest, as we are member-owned, when a profit is made, this surplus is shared in the form of a dividend and returned to you. This model is vital for Credit Unions everywhere, it guarantees that our profits stay right here, circulating within the local economy and benefitting the community as a whole.

How do I get my child’s school involved?

If you would like your child’s school to start up a savings club, get in touch with us via email at School.savers@cambriancu.com and let us know which school. It would also be very helpful if you mentioned it to your child’s teacher or PTA and let them know you’re interested.

Warning: Late repayment can cause you serious money problems. For help with your account please contact our team on 0333 2000 601, email info@cambriancu.com or visit https://www.cambriancu.com/contact-us . For financial advice visit www.moneyhelper.org.uk
